Checking Tiptronic fluid level?

I've just bought an 05 Boxster S Tiptronic with 38k miles, and I really want to get a good check on the Trans fluid level, The only way that I know of is to remove the fill plug on the bottom of the Trans. pan.
Do I check it cold or hot...or should I just go ahead and remove the pan the change the filter and replace all the fluid.

I'm going to do a cross country road trip in May of this year and want to make sure that EVERYTHING is as it should be before I head out for 5 or 6k miies.

Thanks yall......SmileWavy

You will need to lift the car to level. Make sure it is up to operating temp. An infrared head gun helps to insure it is at the right temp, not to cold or hot. Numbers in the book or I can give you the 01S specs. You will also need some type of improvised bent tube to add fluid if needed. Obiviously you will need to have some ESSO fluid on hand. The fluid will need to be level with the top of the inspection hole at operating temp.
