Replacement Gears for Top Tranny?

Plastic gear in the right convertible top transmission is stripped out. Where might a guy source a replacement?

Can you post some pics? This might be a good product to manufacture in the future...

Oh, what Mike implied - the gear is not available separately - you need to purchase a new transmission, so your only option is a used transmission at this point.

Sorry, photos not really an option. I live in the middle of nowhere and my upload speed is dismal. Having said that, after disassembly it appears that just one section of the gear has some slipping; presumably at the initial onset of torque to the gear. I rotated the gear so a less used section (torque wise) is in contact with the worm gear at the initial onset of torque when opening the roof. I will report back when I have tested this. I am certain it will be a good part to reproduce, everything else in the transmission looks bulletproof.

Yes, this is probably the one part of this very expensive transmission that breaks.

Pelicans, I apologize with the lack of a status report on this repair. The good news is: cleaning the plastic gear of grease and rotating it a quarter turn has solved my gear slipping issue. top is operating as designed.
Two things to watch out for: DON'T use an electric drill to rotate (as seen in Bentley manual) or if you do, be exceedingly careful not to pull the trigger too hard. (I destroyed one of my cables using this technique.)
Also, in my experience, this repair is much easier to do with the top in the "up" position.
One more thing, if you are going to open the transmission, avoid any beer or other "refreshment" until you have closed it!
Best Regards, Z
