Got my eye on a real nice 2000 S and it had a replacement engine from Porsche in 08-09 and I was wondering if there is any way to tell by engine numbers, or some other way, as to what type of IMS bearing the new engine has in it.
The soon to be PO said that he could get no info from Porsche or the dealer that sold and installed the engine as to the bearing type, single or double row. Is there a way to tell other than dropping the tranny? Finn

check your engine serial number. It probably has an "AT" instead of the typical letter designating engine manufacture year. AT indicates a reman engine issued by the factory. As JFP says, all factory remans have the 2006 style non-replacable bearing. You could always consider the direct oil lub system offered Tuners Motorsport if you're worried about the IMS failing.
