I have a 2000 Boxster. I purchased a Window Regultor from Pelican Parts and installed it with no problem. However the drivers window doesn't stay down when the door is opened. The window will lower when the door handle pulled on both the outside and inside however as soon as the handle is released the window raises to the fully up position causing the window the hit the roof. Now I have the above problem with the lack of comfort gap. When I "trick" the door by manually closing the latch in the door the window will stay down in the Gap Position or Comfort Gap I think is what it is really called. The micro switch on the door handle must be working ok for the window the go up and down when raised - it appears as though whatever other component this switch is talking to is mixed up. Can you advise? I've tried to "reset" the window by raising and lowering and holding the window switches at the upper and lower limits but nothing seems to help. Is there some simple "re-booting or re-learning" thing I can do to fix this?

There's another switch in the door lock mechanism that has failed and is not operating properly. The car probably thinks that the door is still locked and closed, that is why it is raising the window back up. I have this same problem -- I have the door lock mechanism in my hand.

Is there a fix for the door lock mechanism or must it be replaced.

It's acting like the door is still closed -- is there a micro-switch inside the assembly?

Is it serviceable?

I have some pix on my cellphone which I will add later.

There is a microswitch that gets pressed by the door lock mechanism
The actual latch part that clasps onto the door frame.
When it is latched -- the micro-switch is open.
When the door opens, the latch mechanism presses against the micro-switch,
closes the circuit and the door window remains slightly lowered.

If you have the lock mechnism in your hand -- follow the blue and red wire
there is a microswitch at the end.
It is held on by a metal clasp. You can pry off the clasp and remove the micro-switch
Be careful -- the micro-"rocker/pin" is loose if you are experiencing this failure mechnism.

It is normally housed in a white rubber bubble. Mine was split.
But if I reinserted the pin I could actuate it by hand and watch my window
function properly. However, it will not remain there, or at least not in the proper orientation.

I haven't figured if the switch is repairable or replaceable yet.

Supposedly, no replacement internal parts for these and they fail all the time. Repair parts are worth pursuing!

Hey guys, I have a very similar problem (maybe the same and I am misunderstanding the other posts). Specifically when I open the passenger side door - from inside or out - the window does not lower the required fraction of an inch. I presume this is a micro-switch issue.

Has anyone determined whether the micro-switch can be replaced/repaired? I don't want to open the door panel without knowing if I need to purchase a door lock mechanism.

Mike, I am having the same problem on my passenger door. I sourced this part from DigiKey:

For all intent and purpose, it appears to be the exact same thing... except for mine has an additional black wire. I'm not an electronics expert, but I'm assuming black would be ground.

What do you all think of this part? Should fit right in, and my thought was splicing the 2 matching wires in there, and capping off the black one.

Just want your thoughts and opinions before I proceed...

I had the exact same problem in my '02. I also had the issue where the end of the switch had split a bit but still functioned fine when I pushed it with my finger. I was also able to make the window stay in the slightly down position if I pushed the door latch mechanism just slightly more open. What ended up being the issue in my case was the cam that the micro switch button rode on was worn. The cam is metal coated with plastic. What had happened was that the plastic had worn away in one spot on the cam and when I pushed the latch a bit more open it would get past that spot and the window would stay down. What I did to fix it, as I didn't want to spend $200 on a new latch mechanism, was to get some thick superglue that I use in my model airplane hobby and fill the void and then hit it with some kicker to get it to dry instantly. Once it was filled enough a little filing with a very small file to shape it fixed the issue. It's been working fine for months now. I had tried using JB Weld but that wasn't hard enough or maybe I didn't let it dry enough. I hope this helps.

picked up another Boxster -- similar problem -- window won't drop when opening door
from either direction.

So I figured it was the cam switch -- took it apart -- it was fine.

however when I jiggled the wires to the main connector on the lock mechanism
I'd here and feel a lot of attempts at doing something in the lock mechanism
and occasionally see the window move a smidge -- but not really move
very far.

I pulled another lock mechanism from another car -- same thing happened.

Wasn't sure what to do at that point -- so I buttoned it all back up?

Is this a bad wiring harness? Bad window regulator?

I ran out of time to dig into it further.
