Aloha- Great site & info, thanks so much for sharing!
I have an '01 Boxster & was locked out of the car one morning. When inserted & turned the key tuns/spin either way with no resistance. Also, is the driver's side door/lock the only way to unlock/access the car? It sounds like the ignition lock cylinder mechanism is broken. I had the same problem on my BMW 5-Series. Sometimes just turning it around a couple of time fixed the problem (on the BMW). Other than the electronic open/close button on the key fob, the driver's side door is the only way to get into the car.
