High Pitched Squeal and Smoke
So I just started my car in the garage to leave for work and it made a high pitched squeal and smoke came out of the exhaust. Smelled of oil. backed it out of the garage and noticed a small puddle of water near the back passenger tire. Shut it off and restarted it and no smoke and the squeal sounded more like a beep. No codes popped up and I drove it to work (seven blocks). Let it idle for a few minutes and restarted. The beep/squeal sound was barely audible. Restarted it again and it was gone.
Will wait 30 minutes and try again. It did rain most of the day yesterday and the car sat in the parking lot at work. Any ideas? 2006 with full warranty.

Went out and restarted the car. The beep sounds more like a quick "eek". Also sounds like it's coming from the dash? Doesn't sound like the belt. Weird.

Just went out again and started it. Nothing. Started like normal. No sounds or anything. Maybe water in the engine compartment from the rain yesterday?
Owning this car makes me paranoid! Should have seen the look my wife gave me when I started it this morning. She about had a heart attack.

Could have been the rain. Monitor the puddle and make sure no antifreeze. Water pumps fail on Boxsters and make weird sounds.

A failed air-oil separator might have some of those symptoms. It would draw oil into the motor, leading to the visible smoke and it would create excessive vacuum which might make a squealing noise if air was sucked past the rear main seal. You could perform a little test to confirm/disprove this by attempting to remove the oil fill cap with the motor running. If you can barely get the cap off because of the excessive vacuum it would point to a failed AOS. It wouldn't account for the water though. I'm not an expert, so take all this with a grain of salt.

Just got home from work. Started fine--no eek or squeal, but a large burst of smoke from the exhaust. Ran it for a few miles and everything seemed normal. Checked the oil filler cap while car was running and it came right off.
About to wash and wax it and take it out later.

Oil filler cap will come off, but put your hand on there. If you feel the suction, it's probably more than normal

Washed and waxed her and then took it for an extended drive with the wife for dinner. Ran like normal. You think the washing and waxing took care of the problem? HEHE! If only all mechanical problems were fixed that way...

It always been said a care runs better after a little TLC. I guess that's why so many are named female.
