Fill 'er up! (Full tank, please!)
Hi,
I've got a strange issue with my '01 Boxster. It's difficult for me to get a full tank of gas whenever I fill up. It really takes some finagling to get it to Full. Usually it quits at about 3/4. What should I be checking? ...or is this just one of those Newbie Porsche owner experiences I should get used to? ha ha ha Thanks for your time! Scott

This is about the 3rd time in the last month this has been posted here. Odd, must be a very common issue. There could be something wrong with the vent valve that feeds air into the tank, or it could be just the way these cars are. On my Boxster (and my 911), I typically have to turn the gas nozzle upside down (rotate it 180 degrees) in order to keep it from shutting off constantly. I would try this first. If it continues, there may be a problem with the vent hose. I'll search for the thread for you..

Hi Wayne,
Inverting the fuel filler nozzle works for me - every time. I'll have this investigated when I get back from my trip into more familiar waters... and many more (and close) available personnel who work on them! ![]() Thanks again, Scott

I have this issue- it has to do with the modern fuel pumps handles and the sleeves on the nozzle- the nozzle has to be pressed very far into the filler neck to work. I think it may have to do with the angle that the Boxster/996 filler neck is at and it's routing to the tank. It regularly will shut off at 2/3rds a tank and you must keep depressing the lever to fill all the way.
For my first 2 months of Boxster ownership, I thought something was wrong with my fuel level sensor as I always only had 2/3 of a tank even when I filled 'all the way' up... turns out the tank just wasn't full ever and the auto-shutoff on the nozzle just wouldn't let it automatically go all the way.

Yup, the "upside down" trick works very well. I have the same issues with some of my other cars (914 and 1972 911, I think).
