When I had my '04 Anniversary Edition I had a set of real Porsche humps and the bags they stay in. Of course I sold the car and the humps went with it.
Now I have a 2011 987 and am thinking of getting the humps again. I know there are aftermarket ones, as well as the Porsche ones for 1k or more. What is the difference, besides the price, of the two? I read something about the cheaper ones attaching to the roll hoops and it appears they have a hinge in the middle. I am referring to the ones on Ebay by someone called "Directcartoys" in Fla. Is it best to just bite the bullet and get the OEM ones? I am betting that will be the answer but I had to ask. I am not ready to get them right now just mulling it over. Regards, Tinsby |

Question: do the early 986 Speedster humps fit the later 987? The Porsche factory documentation is unclear on this. I have a part number of 986-504-994-01-G2X, which seems to indicate it's for both the 986 and the 987 but you can never tell with Porsche.
Pelican sells this kit for $850, and it comes with the factory installation kit. From what I can remember, the humps attach into the spring locks that also hold the factory hartop - these locks and bolts can cost $100 alone (I'm not sure if they are included in the installation kit or not). So, if I were to hazard a guess, you could spend $550 with this eBay guy, get some questionable quality parts, and then have to spend a few hundred dollars just to get the Porsche mounting hardware. Or, you can go with the factory stuff with the included mounting kit for $850. If the factory stuff were $1500, then I would go with the eBay guy. But, the difference between the two doesn't seem to be that vast to me. -Wayne

Hi Wayne, Thanks for the advice. I always wished I had kept the humps and sold them separately or kept them. Yes I paid dearly for those "twist lock" things but they really held the OEM humps on! I never thought I would own another Boxster to use them on so they went when the car did. Dunno if the 986 style will fit the 987 you'd have to get some guys to try it for you obviously. Off topic but I was reading your HID light conversion for the 986 and 987 I see that it stops at 2008. Is there some reason the conversion can't be done on a 2011 Base? And what suppressor, choke, capacitor did you use in the power line to the ballast to cure the RF interference? I assume it was only AM noise and not bad enough to affect FM? Just curious because I have a radio license and deal with all sorts of things. Regards and this is a great site with tons of info! ![]() Tinsby |

Wayne, I traded the car to a dealer so I haven't a clue where it is or where it went. I'll keep watching for OEM ones that may come up for sale or get the ones from Pelican. Tnx though, Tinsby |

To all following this thread, I have discovered that the 986 humps will NOT fit on a 987.
Apparently it has to do with the position of the roll bar(s) that somehow interferes with the fitment. The OEM ones that have the 986xxx part # will not fit. Porsche doesn't make humps for the 987. You must use an aftermarket set to conform to your car. I found this information in another forum which included a photo of how the humps DON'T FIT. I don't know if I can post the link here so I will not. Hope this helps someone. Cheers, J Tinsby |

Interesting info. So the aftermarket ones must be manufactured differently than the Porsche ones.
