Boxster S 3.2 vs 911 3.2 hp?

I'm wondering if there are threads to help me understand if there's really a difference in output between the 3.2 liters put into 2000 Boxsters vs 3.2s put into 2000 911s.

911 3.2 rated at 304hp?
986 3.2 rated at 250hp?

Really, and which parts made the difference?
Cams?
CPU?
?

The 3.2 911's stopped production as of 1990 when the 964s were introduced. The 84 to 89 911's made between 207 and 217 hp IIRC.

the question was really 986 vs 996.

Looked like a 3.2 comparison as the 996's were either 3.4 or 3.6 as you know. I don't think either 996 motor was over 300hp.

First step is to figure out which car models you wish to compare. The 80s Carrera N/A 3.2 produced 200-217hp. The 80s model 930 (intercooled 3.3L Turbo) is the only air-cooled Porsche from that era to produce 300hp. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_911

Thx
My brother has a 2000 Carrera4 and we both somehow forgot it's a 3.4

Are there any Boxster upgrade threads you can recommend? I just traded my 911 for my first Boxster and am beginning anew.

Well now you need to tell us which year Boxster and what engine you have.

OK. There are exhaust upgrades available but do your homework. Some have a serious drone at 3000rpms, so you generally get what you pay for. The cheaper exhausts are the ones to avoid generally. You could also benefit from a suspension upgrade to MO30 which lower the car about an inch and give a progressive spring rate as well as increased sway bar size.
You should also explore the IMS bearing upgrades available to you. Personally, I have done the IMS upgrade for both my 996 and Boxster within the first week of ownership. If you don't have records of service and depending on mileage, you want to think about AOS replacement and water pump too.

Go to Mike Focke's webpage. (click on his name in the earlier post and go to his website) He has some excellent information. Also google Pedros Garage. He is in Miami but has an excellent DIY page. (you'll need Firefox to navigate his website)
