My New-To-Me Cayman S

Howdy fellow Modern Middie Lovers! Just wanted to share our newest purchase...a 2006 Cayman S. This car was originally purchased new by my brother in Feb of 2006 (from the first batch of cars on the lot) and now he has sold it to me. It's a well cared for machine with only 36.6k miles (ok, a few more since I drove it home from Michigan to SW Ohio yesterday). He's kept it in great shape, and I (obviously) plan to do the same. I "have" to use it as a daily driver for the rest of the month, but after I get my Subaru back (letting my bro borrow it until he ships off to Oregon for a few months) I'll likely get back to using that more regularly, and the CS will be a "nice weather / weekend / special day" car. Not that it can't be a daily, but I just don't want to run it into the ground with daily use just yet. Still...I love it!

At this time it needs nothing. We did notice the passenger window took extra long to raise back up the 1/2" when Julie closed the door a couple of times (mostly worked just fine...just happened twice), so we're going to keep an eye on that. And the tires are not original and my brother mentioned the RR has a very slow air leak somewhere, so I may be investing in some new tires before long. (Might try to find something with a softer ride...don't hate me!) But other than those minor issues the car is just fantastic and I couldn't be more thrilled!

So here's a pick of the new girl on Sunday morning...

And I even shot a little video on Saturday...

I plan to do a longer / better video at some point. And of course more photos. But right now the house looks like a construction site, so not a great background for such a pretty car!

Anywho...see you around the boards!

Man I love the way Caymans look. I just don't fit in them *sob*. Maybe the new one will have a little more room. Then I'll have to wait until they get cheaper on the used market.

Oh man! Not enough head room or not enough leg room?

Fortunately, I'm very average. 5'-11" and I fit perfectly with about 4-6" headroom. Of course, I have the seat as low as it will go.

Thanks Ken!

Thanks Rod! I'm less thrilled about the silver color (aren't they all silver? ) but I love the Terra Cotta interior. Really makes it special.

They sure seem to be. When we started looking for our car we really did not want silver just for that reason. Needless to say finding a blue Boxster S with power seats WITHOUT a Tiptronic was a challenge. But we stuck it out and found one.

But I have always liked the look of silver with the Terracotta interior. I really does look sharp and I love those wheels. Good luck with it.

Thanks! If I could have chosen my color, I would love to have a Cobalt blue one...gorgeous. But as they say, you don't see your car's exterior from behind the wheel.

I had to travel yesterday for work, so Julie drove the CS to work. She's in love and wants one of her own. Oops.

Thanks! Yes, most likely he'll get another Porsche, maybe a Cayman R. He was "inspired" to sell his car and shop for another after driving a friend's new Carrera GTS Cabriolet with the PDK. He LOVED it. Don't think he can do $150k, but a Cayman R or maybe even a two year old 911S just might be.

But then he started talking about "wanting a better winter car" and "maybe something with better mileage" and even "maybe I'll by something cheap and save for a couple of years". So who knows...

I think you have the perfect color combination. I guess that is why they make so many colors. Hope you got a good enough deal to still barley be related for a while. Didnt you two have a circa 99 Boxster? I remember the name Dough and Julie. Have to tell you though. If you have a good spot at work to park it I would still be my daily driver. Dont save the miles for some one else. I keep looking at the new ones but the math just dosent make sense right now. I have been strong enough to resist a test drive, so far.

Family still thoroughly intact. I helped him buy his first Porsche (a 2003 Boxster) and was there when he bought this one. If he buys another, I'll likely be there as well! He's happy to offer the family discount. I just have to offer him first refusal if I ever sell it. This one, however, should be a long term keeper.

Yes, we've owned two '99s in fact, one for longer than the other. I've / we've gone back and forth between the newer cars and the older 911s. Ultimately, the goal will be to have one of each.

Don't worry, we'll get good use out of the car. There are just a couple of things that really bother me about using it daily. They have nothing to do with the car or it's abilities. ..or parking. You'll just have to trust me when I say I want to keep it nice, and driving it to work every day won't allow that.

Thanks! Very much happy. And the CS is easily one of my favorites. (I like the hard roof over the Boxster's convertible top...which I got to use far too rarely.) All I need is an old 911 and I'll have my dream garage.
