My 2000 Boxster "S" re-make.

This will be my re-build of a 986 "S".
Been thinking about a lot of things and playing with others.
Very "low" budget.(maybe i needed to get a ? ) less money.

But I have a 2000 986 "S" with 178,000+ on the meter.
Motor was running but making soap.(water in the oil)

So I got a take-out with 75,000+ and with a newer IMS and installed .
The passengers window motor/regulator was dead. (replaced and then the driver side went, can't win )
The top would not open. ( bent parts . fixed with more parts )
Good front tires and BAD rear. ( replaced the rear ) and repacked CV's with new boots.
Needs a new top.( bad rear window . ( thinking about doing a Z Hardtop )
And it looked to be run hard and put up wet.(came from Texas, woman owner ? Auto tran's ) it was going to be a car for the Wife but things change )
No AC. ( i live in AZ, not good ) Will repair.

She has been a bit of a hanger Queen but safe. Now being 70+ ( that's me ) and a old racer it has been making me think of one last stand ? ( track part-time car )

So this is my "general " plan.

New Apple Car-Play radio. ( need to have tunes )
New hard top. ( the Z )
Header's , pipes, and maybe a muffler and maybe a TUNE .
New driver's seat. ( FIA )
Replacement of the brakes. ( will stay stock with SS brake lines.they are the "S" and should be good +- )
Replace other old stuff as it shows its self.
Maybe build a rear-deck like the early drawings for when the top is off ?

We will see ? Have been looking at this photo for a long time !

If I can get all that done then maybe a wide body kit ?
Looked into more power but $$$$$. ( wow 4.5 so cool ) but its a AUTO ! LOL

Jim Hall had a AUTO ?

Thanks.

some of the up-dating so far. its a sport-exhaust tried in the EU ? the dash was wood grained .

nice, I am 72 and bought my 200 boxster s a month or so ago.really enjoying it, very solid car, feels like ir weighs more the way it rides, but accelerating tells a different story.thinking of doing the crios mod to the exhaust, wondering if there is a downside.Mine is tiptronic by neccessity, and it works swell for me.No pdk, but still good fun.I found out about the kick down mode it gets a shot of power about 2200 rpm., thoiught it had downshifted but no, it was in the same gear.
Nice little bump.

Thanks,ASD.
She is a Tip. also.

I got the mod muffler installed today. Its a pain to drop but I have a lift so I'm spoiled.
I did the sound test at a cold idle and got about 81 Db. at 8 ft.stock.
I was lucky and had used anti-seize on the bolts and pipes and everything came apart with just a little work.

After getting it all back up loose first,I pulled everything up tite.

Came out ok but I need to move the outlets up a little maybe 3/4" +- but its ok.
I like the pipe only look.

Now for sound. I did the same test about 3 hours later .
How about 78 Db. On a drive it maybe a little more sound +- ? Just a little different sound ? Tone ?

I will get her cleaned up tomarrow and do a GoPro and post later.

Positives = Like the look.
Cons = lots of work.

But its all good.

Still need to get the video down to a size what will work . Not my thing.

But started a repair I got from "Mr. Jeff". Thanks Jeff.

My turn signal stopped the return thing on one side. ?
But "JEFF" had a idea. So I fowled his lead and cut some rivets and had a look.
Yep,same broken/worn-out parts. (it is 21 years old)
But I went a little different way. ( dame yanks )
I used RTV to do the repair. Looking at the parts it seems they were made to move a little.
So, maybe the RTV will be able to hold the broken part and still move a little ? We will see.
Their is a lot going on in this part. Lots of springs. But two that are a pain.
But how about some RTV to hold them in their socket ? So I did.
Need 24 hour's to setup so I will start in the AM.
Also I used a "ball" carbide to cut the top of the rivets.

Have one part that showed up when I pulled the cover ? Maybe someone knows ?
Its the white plastic part that looks like a tea cup ?

Thanks, and on into what is next.

Here is the part ?

I don't know where it goes ? "JEFF" any ideas ?

Started on the new radio.

Think that will work, even kept the DSP panel and their is a story about that.
But will need to power up first and see that everything works first.
Also need to run the rear camera stuff also.

And I have the turn signal put back together and will install and test after I get the radio up and running.

Also wanted to say "THANKS" to Jeff for the placement of the "tea" cup.

Also been thinking about a Racing Sim ? Maybe just leave the car as is and do my racing on a PC.
Anybody going that way ? Things to do and not do ?
Thanks

More parts. Tried some of the other hubs but none will work with the Tiptronic system, wires.

So I got a stock wheel and cut out the center. Now I will weld the adapter to the stock hub. I will turn it flat and clean things up and put a chamfer on the new hub .

I know I will not have the air bag. I will be going to a 6 point system and a racing seat.
I am not saying anyone should do this. LOL
