Have I Bought a Lemon
After rebuilding the engine due to an exploded tappet causing the timing chain to jam and bend the exhaust valves, the engine is back out again due to lost compression on No6 cylinder (opposite side to the original problem). On strip down I have found a broken valve spring.
Whilst I had stripped the engine first time around, all valves were checked and the seats were given a light grind. Would this have caused the problem. Having bought the car last September, I have done less than 1000 miles and 2 engine strips, on this odds I won't be able to afford it with an engine strip every 500 miles. I now have the dilemma, get the car running and sell whilst its going good, or risk it and hope nothing else happens. This is my first experience of owning a Porsche and at the moment it is very memorable for all the wrong reasons. ![]() Phill |

Did you re-use the springs or get new ones? Perhaps that spring was damaged the first go around?

Hi
Although I am a new Porsche owner myself and don't know much about these cars. It seems to me you should back off for a while and give your brain and nerves a rest. Jump back into it and pursue the project in a few weeks or so. I think all of us go through this kind of aggrevation from time to time wheather it be a relationship, job loss or bad news in general. I have always found that having a clear head and getting some much needed rest, will help point me in the right direction as to what should be done next. I think if it were me I would pursue fixing the car, getting it right and stick with my original plans.... only because these cars are so much fun to drive and own, and they are something you can really be proud of. Wayne,
I reused the original ones, Didn't seem to be any signs of damage the first time around. I would of liked to replace all parts during the strip down, but what I did replace, and with ancillaries, it cost me over £2000. Rod Thanks for the positive words of encouragement. Phill |
