Mufflers for Boxster Spec Racer

I'm building a BSR. Just finished the IMS bearing and deep sump, and now I'm thinking about the exhaust.

I am hoping that someone can make a recommendation for some mufflers. Just something to take the edge off without adding too much of a restriction.

TIA

Michael

I saw two Spec Boxsters this weekend at our Club Race - both had exhausts that hooked directly to the headers and went straight back. I have no idea what the brand was, but I'm sure they are available somewhere, since they were identical on both cars.

This is not an endorsement as I have no experience with this system, but AWE Tuning came out with a straight-pipe system specifically for BSR:

Alternatively, I know a few guys that have just done straight-pipes on their own as cheaply as possible, even leaving the cats in the system.

For a quick solution, I just removed the mufflers and replaced them with 2-90 degree bends. Left the cats. While not optimal, it was inexpensive and quick.... I know a few racers that have done this.

Tube diameter and slight back-pressure via a straight thru muffler are key to making the most power from a Spec car. Straight pipes will actually loose torque down low and do not achieve max HP up top contrary to popular belief. Too small a tube and it will be restrictive (stock diameter leaves a lot on the table) and too large a tube will sacrifice torque and will not yield more HP up top. 2" tube with a small straight thru muffler is the best combination for Boxster Spec cars.

So after measuring, the longest muffler I can "easily" fit is a 12" or maybe a 14" glasspack. I'm going to mock up some tubs tomorrow to see if I can make that work.

BTW, after 120,000 miles the IMS bearing looks perfect.
