Power Steering Rack-Bad? (03)

Can anyone describe to me how you can discern if your power steering rack is bad or in need of replacement? I have replaced: Drop-links, control arm, inner/outer tie rods, "wishbone" balanced & aligned and still get a intermittent "bump" vibration when on a rough hwy. kinda like when a steering dampener is bad...smooth>>> shimmy>>>smooth. i am told shocks are good? any thoughts

Steering rack usually leaks oil&/or torn boots if bad. "Bump" vibration is usually from a bent wheel. Does this happen at a certain speed range? If so that usually means tires out of balance, always check tires for correct air pressure.

OK, no leaks. that eliminates one item. speed is not relevant. usually happens on bad road surface. wheels, balance, pressure-perfect. will have to find a good shop. thanks
