What year 3.2 engines will fit a 2005 Boxster S

I have a 2005 Boxster S with an IMS failure.
It seems some of the used 2003 or 2004 are much less $$$ and still considered a 5th digit B in the serial number as mine is.
Will these earlier engines fit without modifications?

Any M96 motor will fit if you retain most of your electronics.

I have a 3.8 X51 motor that would work nicely.
