turns out, bad thermostat, waterpump , heater control valve.
I added a new cap too. |
Now in 90 plus outdoor temps it is running about 190.

2000 986 S in AZ yesterday. Air temp 116 running with AC on temp gauge read 180 .but the red light was flashing.. Can anyone tell me why?

1. Engine coolant level too low — light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz) 2. Engine compartment temperature too high — light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz) (engine compartment blower might be faulty) 3. Engine coolant temperature too high — light is lit; pointer on the right 4. Temperature sensor at water outlet faulty — light flashes rapidly (1 Hz); pointer on the right Note The temperature warning in point three is indicated if the conditions "engine coolant temperature too high" and "engine coolant level too low" are present simultaneously (1Hz = 1 flash per second. 0.5Hz = 2 seconds per flash) |
lo temp thermostats
Lo temp thermostats, do not make your car run cooler. They only open up the system at an earlier temp. So if it is quick coffee run, there might be a small advantage. But 20 minutes+ it is what is.
BTW, PCA has a YouTube video on front bumper removal and cleaning of your radiators. cheers Art |

Thanks. |
I've also had no luck finding grilles for my wife's 2000 S. Saw this vendor in an ad in this month's Panorama. https://www.radiatorgrillstore.com/product-page/porsche-986-boxster-s-small-front-radiator-grilles
