Search for a Boxster

I am in the PNW and have a max limit of $10k to spend on a Boxster.

Here is my question-

Is it better to get a 98-99 with lower mileage (have found some with as little as 50k) or a 2000-2003 with higher mileage (from 75-100k) for the same price?

Thanks for the help.

1. Buy the newest Porsche you can afford
2. A higher mileage car with ALL service paperwork is always better than a unknown (service) lower mileage car.

If you can afford a 2003 you get a more more powerful engine (225 hp), and new glass rear window with defroster.

911-style cupholder that pops out of the dashboard, remote unlocking front and rear trunks as well as the passenger doors, and a lighted and locking glove compartment. These may be smaill details but if it's intended for daily driving it just makes the car easier to live with.

My mom needs to replace her daily driver and I'm trying to convince her to buy one

Thanks for the advice, however I have not seen any 2003+ models in my range. I plan on getting a hard top eventually but if I could find one with a hard top that would be great, that would help since the hard top has the glass window.

Is there any reason in particular to avoid getting a 97?

I'd personally stick with 2000 or newer. The earliest cars had more problems of which many were sorted out or minimized by 2000. All can suffer from RMS leaks or IMS bearing failures but the early 2.5s also had some problems with engine case porosity, and cylinder sleeves slipping. If you can find one with a service history you're much better off. You want to see very regular oil changes and good general care.
