Possible to put a 986 gearbox into a 987?

Is it possible to put the 986 S gearbox into a 987 S? I don't expect any differences..?!

Not a normal swap I guess, the reason I'm asking is..:

With the 987 S gearbox I hit the rev limiter in 6th gear at 284 kph, 986 S gearbox has a different ratio.. for higher speed / less revs.

Transmission ratio is a little too short for a 3.8 engine with 987 S gearbox..
