rear spoiler does not go up automatically
 

Hi all,

My dash light tells me the rear spoiler did not go up. I have bought a service manual on CD and have learned the following:

The spoiler goes up and down with the push buttons in the drivers compartment.

In looking at the wiring diagram, the push buttons talk to the control module, which then activates the up or down relay to turn on the spoiler motor. The upper and lower limit switches are in the motor assy and tell the control module when the spoiler is fully up or down and to stop running the motor. All this works perfectly.

This tells me all the components are working, so the next thought is does the car know it is time to put up the spoiler? Seems so, as it knows it did not go up so it knows how fast the car was going and it did not receive a spoiler extended switch reading.

Any ideas on what to check next?

Not to hijack the thread- but is there a way to manually activate the spoiler?

Yes, but it is down by the pedals so driving 75 mph and activating it is a bit of a crash waiting to happen.

It goes up at 75mph and goes back down 55mph. You cannot see it happening from driver seat. It is impossible to see it unless you raise yourself off the seat and turn your headbackwards to look out the rear plastic window, which is dangerous at 75mph.

@marosmith, To activate it manually, there is a small switch by the pedals closer to the door and right by the fuse box.

Stinson, I believe there are two relays inside the trunk on the pass. side behind the carpet. You might want to check your Bentleys and see which one operates the spoiler.

the wiring diagram shows that when you press the manual pushbuttons, you are exercising the relays. It is largely the same as if the command module tried to raise it. I also agree that you can't see if from the drivers seat, but the dash light tells me it did not go up.

don't know what else to check.

I had a similar problem with my Boxster. I changed the fuse and relays. It made me nuts and I was about to change the spoiler motor, but decided to first pull the fuse box cover off and check the button at the bottom of the fuse box. I found that the switch was not properly connected. Somehow it got lose and was not connected properly. I pushed in the connection behind the fuse box and now the spoiler works with the button and when I drive. Easy and very cheap fix. Hope it works for you.

There's a little switch on the cover of the fuse box...
