What are the Exhaust Modification Options for a 2002 Boxster S

What are the Exhaust Modification Options for a 2002 Boxster S.
What are the best and least complicated choices for better performance?
Can any of the cats be removed without causing problems with emission inspections?
Thanks

You can do a search here for exhaust mods and you will find a wealth of information on the many and varied exhaust mods on the market and as many opinions about which one is best. The "S" exhaust is designed so well (as is the rest of the car) that I'd leave it alone and not tempt a CEL, drone, or an emissions test failure. That's my two cents.

Hi Ron,
Your kind of advice is what I am looking for.
I'm afraid of project that will affect other functions that were originally working well.
Your experiences are valuable to others who are soon to walk the steps that others have previously experienced.

One of the first things that someone tried to sell me when I bought my '99 Boxster was a $5K exhaust and intake system. I'm not one to jump into mods until I've done a lot of research especially when it comes to plunking down $5K on a car I bought for $11K. There are some well made systems out there and even the best of them seem to have drone that drives owners up a wall.
After a lot of research I decided to invest money in a LN ceramic IMS, a ROW M030 suspension and big reds. My strategy was to extend motor life, improve handling and improve stopping by improving the brakes. Your "S" model has both the big reds and the equivalent of the ROW M030 suspension so you are starting off where I began.
I also added the GT3 air ducts to cool the front breaks better, Pedro's Techno brace and his competition motor mount.
The last thing I've done is to add the EVO cold air intake, which is the only CAI sold by Porsche and it alone has improved the performance, by kicking in maximum torque and hp about 1K rpm sooner than stock.
The sound of the intake, when it kicks in under full throttle, is an absolute joy to hear and I can't imagine that any expensive exhaust system could make it sound better.
Next on my list is Pedro's Techno Torque and Sportech's muffler in which they take a stock Boxster muffler and remove about 85% of the baffles. Less weight, a few more ponies unleashed and no drone and no emissions issues.
All the best on your "S" the Boxster series are one of the finest series of automobiles ever made.

Re: EVO Cold Air Intake.
Hi Ron,
From your experience, it looks like the EVO CAI is a win win situation. No real trade off or downside to this performance modification.

I like Fabspeed Performance Exhaust Systems the best.

A combination of the exhaust, intake and chip would be great for power. Underdrive pulleys and LN engineering low temp thermostat should also help slightly.
