5293 Mile Road Trip...complete

Just got back to South Carolina yesterday after 15 days of traveling thru our beautiful country. The trip covered eleven different states and all different combinations of weather.
My wife and I were stuffed into my 05 Boxster S and both trunks filled to the top. I am amazed at this little car, the precise steering made the long miles each day a pleasure, the curise control was absolutly spot on, seats near perfect, mpg was about 25+ and the ride even with 19" tires was very good.
When I pulled into the garage at the end of the trip, I noticed m wife looking at the rear tires, she said "you have a white stripe on this tire"......the threads were showing thru the RR tire, CRAP these michelin performance tires dont last long. Glad I did not know about the tire when I was driving thru I40 just west of Asheville NC, If you have been thru there you know why.
All is good... I highly recommend a trip like this in a P Car

Here is a pic of me and the car in the Badlands of SD:

Teton Pass outside of Jackson Hole Wyoming (yes we were riding with the top down)

Yellowstone NP...way to much snow for this southern boy

Most excellent!

Hopefully I'll get some pictures from my return trip to California in a couple of months! Have to do some sight seeing!

Sounds like a great trip. Glad to hear you had so much fun. The longest trip I have taken in mine was about 1800 miles from Tuscon Az to Champaign Il and I know how much fun my dad and I had on that trip. They are amazing cars!

One question, were the tires new when you left on the trip? I just bought some Michelins (after remortgaging the house). Hate to think they were going to be gone in 6k miles :0

No, the tires were on the car when I bought it in Jan of this year, I'm guessing that they had half of the tread left at that time. When I left home the wear bars were not showing, I figured I had about 10k tread left (uneducated guess) when I got back ....white threads showing thru. GREAT tires, terrible mileage, just bought 2 more for $883 that will be installed this week, next tires will be something else with higher mileage rating I dont need the extra sticky tires...I'm old and drive like it

Get the rear aligned for wear by someone who really knows Porsches...like a race shop. Made an enormous difference for me.

Mike, the tires were worn evenly although the middle tread was gone, both sides the same.
really does not look like an alignment problem...am I right?
