996 Windscreen fit Boxster?
I know the front of a 996 is the same as a Boxster. The questions is, will a 996 windscreen fit a Boxster?
My windscreen has an unrepairable crack, and in Aus, a genuine screen is about $1200. My insurance company will only pay for a windscreen that meets Australian standards ie cheaper and locally produced non genuine. |

That's odd wouldn't a Porsche sold there have to meet Australian stds automatically? Or was it like a grey import?

What I am saying is it must meet Aussie standards. After that they dont care about quality of fit or anything else.
An Aussie on is about $700 and genuine about $1200. They expect me to pay the difference. There is a 996 being wrecked and I am after the screen if it will fit. |

Everything forward of the doors is supposed to be interchangeable prior to 2002 so the windshield should be the same.

Boxster windscreen PN: 986-541-901-02
996 windscreen PN: 996-541-901-00 All the Boxster windscreens have part numbers that start with 986. All the 996 ones start with 996. My experience with Porsche tells me that there are differences between the two. They may be something minor, like a built-in antenna or something like that, but they are definitely not *exactly* the same. I'm not sure if there is a difference between a coupe and convertible windsheild either - doesn't appear to be from the parts diagrams... -Wayne

Wayne, I think you are right. When I look at those part numbers, the 986 one shows an antenna and the 996 one does not mention an antenna.
Thanks for all the replies. |

Whatever plastic you have, buy some Plexus.
