I have a 1999 Boxster. I was told by my local Porsche dealer that this OBC upgrade will not work on my car because "it wasn't installed". However, I have an outside temp indication below my mph readout so doesn't this mean I have it? Will this upgrade work for me? I don't want to mess around with the electricals unless I am sure. Thanks.

Again, dealers are pretty clueless and often don't know much outside of the scope of what's in the factory manuals. It sounds like a previous owner might have already turned this on in your car to allow you to see the temperature display.

From everything I've read, if you have a temp display, your OBC is already turned on.
Mine was displayed. My Durametric arrived today. Sure enough, it says my OBC is activated. I've got a few more projects I'd like to do first (the next big one is upgrade to the ROW M030 suspension, Project 63), but I will eventually do Project 91 to be able to access the rest of the options for the OBC. |
Temp display with On Board Computer (OBC)?
Anyone know where the outside temp sensor is located? Anyone know the temperature range?
Thanks, Rink |
There is an outside temperature sensor located in the front bumper cover. See photo 1 of this article: Pelican Technical Article: Boxster Front Bumper Removal - 986 / 987

I have a 99 also and likewise I had the temp displayed. I did the upgrade and it works perfectly.
