Check out Figure 28 of this project:

based on the part numbers, the 996 oil cooler and the Boxster S oil cooler are the same. Did I get this right?

Yes, it would appear that way, the 'S' cooler and the 996 cooler for the year 2000 are both 996-107-025-57.
