Anyone Replace Convertible Top On '97-99 Boxster
Has anyone replaced the convertible top on their '97-99 Boxster? What top did you purchase, where did you purchase it, how much did it cost and how much did it cost to have it installed if you didn't DIY? Did you go with plastic or glass window and if you replaced plastic with glass what do you think of the glass over the plastic? Did you have any issues after it was installed? Any other observations about the top are welcome. Thanks in advance!

Unless something has changed, replacing the plastic with glass requires an additional bow in the top frame which means a whole new top and frame.
That said, I hear mostly about GAHH products which apparently has a product whereby the glass portion detaches and slides down into the compartment before the top folds down. I have additional info coming by way of pics from GAHH. I don't know if you have to perform an additional step to lower the top. Obviously, if you can get a glass window you're better off. |

Here you go... more than you ever wanted to know about 986 tops:
thetop-itsmaintaince&replacement - mikefocke2 Essentially you have 4 choices. all prices include pro install: 1 Replace the plastic window only- $400ish 2 Replace the top canvas & plastic window complete using your existing frame- $1100ish 3 Replace the top canvas with glass window using your existing 3 bow frame (Gahh, Robbins)- $1500ish 4 Replace top complete with an 03-04 glass window 4 bow top from a dismantler- $2000ish I am probably doing a Robbins glass window (3 bow) top in the next two weeks through a professional installer in SoCal.

5th choice is buying a good top from someone that converted their car to a spec boxster. There are quite a few of them around.....
