You might want to check out the article on the Intermediate Shaft Bearing (IMS). Here's the link: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/14-ENGINE-Intermediate_Shaft_Bearing/14-ENGINE-Intermediate_Shaft_Bearing.htm

Hello Wayne and Gmac:
I have a 98 Boxster 87000 kms, it also has a rattle and light acceleration for about 3-4 sec but ONLY in cold starts, I drive it weekend and nice evenings, read the article on IMS. I do not hear the same noise on acceleration or on warm starts. Also my car has a very light oil leak from the RMS, and plan to wait until I'll have to do a clutch change to repair it and have a look or replace the IMS bearing. I bought my Boxster last spring and learned a lot from this and other forums, and from Wayne's excellent book, thanks a lot. Best regards Fermin |
