Instrument Cluster LCD
I have a 99 Boxster with ~142K on the clock. Today when I started it the Odometer and Trip meter LCD broke, it looks like a fireworks starburst on the last part of the mileage. Seems strange to me that it even broke as I hadn't removed the cluster in years. Is there a way to replace the LCD or does it require a new cluster?

I have heard that someone somewhere was selling a kit to repair these, but I haven't seen it yet. Perhaps someone else here has some suggestions?

Are the trip and odo in the middle ?
Maybe you could use one of the two I am offering on the classifieds http://forums.pelicanparts.com/boxster-cayman-forum/622767-classifieds-august-sept-2011-a.html - it's somewhere in the middle of the post I am willing to let you try out first as you are local (Freemont <-> San Carlos) |
The trip and odo are on the far left for 99. From the pics it looks like it should be repairable if I can find the correct LCD.
Does anyone have any idea on how to figure out who might supply this type of LCD? |

These guys have a fix for the climate control, might want to see if they have a fix for the ODO |
Found a company that rebuilds 986 clusters. I've sent mine off and will report back results.

Bad news, just got a call and was told that the LCD parts are no longer available and that I'd have to purchase a new cluster.
If I have another issue I will check back with this company as I bet parts will be manufactured sooner or later, these cars are not getting any younger. |
