The LN Engineering oil filter adapter seems like a great idea. Just out of curiosity, has anyone experienced the filter being "stuck" onto the adapter and thus, when unscrewing the filter, the adapter is actually being "unscrewed" too, thus ending up with a filter attached to the adapter? Thanks.

I haven't heard of that happening before, but if it did, I imagine the solution would be to just put it in a soft-jaw vise and rotate the filter off of it. Pretty simple, I would imagine.

We have seen that happen when the filter was over tightened, or the sealing gasket on the filter was not coated with oil before installation. When it happens, we put a cap style filter wrench on the filter, and the LN install tool on the apdaptor and simply unscrew them. Be sure to coat the adaptor's orings with oil before reinstalling, and torque to 19 Lb. ft.
If the adaptor is properly torqued, the new filter gasket oiled and only tightened to 1/2 turn past hand tight, the adaptor will stay in the car when the filter is removed.

JFP is correct...I'm very careful about not over-tightening the filter and removal is fine each time I change the filter. FWIW, I use the Napa Gold, which is a great filter and only costs $6. Oil gets changed once a year, which is about 3000 miles.

Hey,
I'm considering getting the LN filter adapter for my car. I'm curious.....do they give you a list of filters other than theirs that will fit on the adapter or do you just have to go to the auto parts store and match it up? I would really like to not have to mail order the oil filter unless there's a really good reason for doing so. Thanks! Jeff |

LN does not make filters, and their adaptor uses the Wix/NAPA Gold 1042, which is an excellent filter you can buy at any decent parts outlet, usually for less than $5.

Thanks, I would have swore I saw a filter with their name on it when I located the adapter. Must have been a late night or too much beer.

LN does sell an oil filter that actually a stainless steel reusable/cleanable filter element in a billet housing as an alternative for those using the Accusump setup where the aftermarket filters run into ground clearance issues:
You really do not need this ultra short style filter for street use, the Wix/NAPA Gold filter on the standard adaptor gives you better ground clearance than the factory setup does.
