Oil pressure gauge for the 987

On another site, there was a thread about using the Sportchrono "wart" to hold an oil pressure gauge rather than a stop watch.

I like this idea a lot--here is one example:

My question is:

I understand --from an earlier thread--the oil level sensor on a 986 also functions as a oil temp sensor; does the 987 also have the capability?

Thanks for any help.

I thought about doing this a while back as I saw some nice gauges in an issue of Excellence. They were fairly expensive as I remember.

The 987 also has the oil level and temp incorporated in the same sensor. The oil pressure is just a switch.

That company made the two separate gauges with 5 volt signal feeds (for DME/OBD2 interfacing) and used the OEM temp sensor and offered a pressure sensor to replace the pressure switch.

Sent you a PM.

Regards,
paul...

replacing the oil pressure switch with a combo of oil pressure sensor and switch (for the warning light) is very simple (look at Wayne's book, it's described here)
Pelican Technical Article: Boxster 996 Gauge Cluster Upgrade - 986 Boxster (1997-04) -

I was looking very long for a way to get to the oil temp and could never figure out how to tap into the built in oil temp sensor but eventually found an additional place where I could install an oil temp sensor
Oil temp sensor - 986 Forum - for Porsche Boxster Owners and Others

This is on a 986 but I'd think it would be worth to check if that also works on a 987

It needs to match the cluster to look right, IMHO. I did a set up for my 01S Boxster. Never actually hooked up the sensor but it looks pretty cool. Mounted the gauges on what was a porsche phone mount. Not sure what year you have. I can post a pic if anyone would like to see it. Might even part with it.

This would replace the typical sportchrono "dash wart" in a 987.

I totally like the idea of putting this into the "wart"
