I have an '01 Boxster. My problem started when it wouldn't start up. The battery seemed to have enough power & cranked the engine but, it just wouldn't start.
A half hour it started.
I thought maybe it was a weak battery so I replaced the battery.
Upon starting the car I noticed my idle was irregular, i.e. the tach/rpm would surge up & down. When I depress the accelerator it seems to run smooth.
Could it be the oxygen sensor or idle air control?

Yup, unfortunately it could be one of a hundred things. I would check the fuel injection trouble codes - the computer is bound to be putting out some errors that will assist you in figuring out the problem.

Just a guess but maybe the fuel pump. Seems like a lot of threads where the car cranks well but won't start turn out to be the fuel pump. You could buy a fuel pressure test gauge and check it at the test port on the right side fuel rail. Like I said, this is just a guess.

This is one of those problems where you can get a lot of different opinions and start buying tools and replacing parts needlessly. Please follow Wayne's advice and see if there are any codes stored first. Knowing what they are will tell you the system the problem exists in then you have a starting point to work up the Porsche diagnostic tree. Without that knowledge you are farting into the wind.
