That info is in the article above - it's about five quarts give or take, with about a 1/2 more quart for the oil level in the filter canister. So count on about six quarts or so when you're changing the oil.

If You drained til it was all out (slow dripping) on a 986 I'd start with 8.0 quarts. If it were a 987 I'd say start with 7.5 quarts or less. Get it piping hot (oil takes longer than coolant to warm to "piss hot") and then top off. If you start with these numbers, even if the indicator is below the measurement range you aren't going to lose oil feed due to low level.
Furthermore, the difference in draining a relatively cold motor and a motor with hot oil is huge. If you drain the oil while it's at sauna temperatures you drain a measurable amount more... It runs down the walls and out MUCH easier. If this were the case, and you own a 986, you might find yourself adding up to as much as 1.3 additional quarts AFTER the 8.0 original...but don't start with more than 8! Taking some out is a pain without a vacuum chamber and hose down the dipstick (good luck on 987s with no dipstick tube ;P)
