Front Bumper Finish Help

Recently my front Bumper is showing signs of "peeling". Imagine a screen protector on a cell phone/Ipod.

It is bubbling and peeling. The color of the paint is fine its just this film covering it.

Has anyone experienced this? How would I go about correcting it?

I seems like I could peel off the film and then clear coat it??????

I assume you know the difference between clear coat and a 3M type product that covers the bumper? If it truly is clear coat peeling, that would not be factory and someone resprayed it at some point.

My suggestion? Remove the front bumper cover and have it professionally refinished...doesn't cost that much and it's quite easy to remove DIY.

It is not 3m.....it is def. the clearcoat. the paint underneath looks great.

I saw a can of clear coat remover at Auto Zone Yesterday.....could I just remove the flaking clearcoat and then reapply new clearcoat?

I'd say the chances of that working out well are zilch. I'd take it to a bodyshop you trust and get a quote on a full refinish. It's nearly impossible to blend-in small spot of new clearcoat, it will always show. The whole thing requires redone to blend perfectly. If this was a Ford F150 it might be good enough, but I'm sure you want perfection... that's why you bought a Porsche in the first place

Now, on the other hand, if you wetsand (without removing any of the color layer) and re-coat that little spot... then wetsand the new clearcoat, and polish to blend, maybe it will look good enough for you... but I seriously doubt it. Likely, you're going to refinish anyway, so it won't hurt to try (avoid waxing, though... rubbing compound and polishing compound only. Wax can cause "orange peel" issues when recoating).

Good luck.
