Engine noise @ 2300
Two hundred mile ago i replaced the maf sensor on my 97 boxster because of a no start when warm problem. The new sensor seemed to work and the check engine light went out. Everything fine for the next hundred miles. Yesterday when started cold, the engine would hardly run, backfire, and die. Restarted and held at higher rpm and ran fine all day throughout the freeways in oakland. Mid trip at 2300 rpm i noticed a rapid sharp noise from the engine. On acceleration it quit. De acceleration it would quit, but at 2300 rpm in gear or not it makes a consistent alarming noise. Tracking the problem with a stethoscope ear piece, the noise seems to center around the cat converter or exhaust system. Also a white smoke appears when reved. Is this noise something that would indicate a bad cat converter? And would a cat converter be linked to the maf and cause the above function. Now, ck eng light has re appeared. Reasonable/good porsche tecs in the northbay area? Refs and advice much appreciated.

MAFs are a part often replaced when the true cause of the fault lies elsewhere. Get the codes read and post them, someone will give you the possible causes list.
the folks over at Babbler's would be a good source for local mechanic recommendations. http://www.babblers.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=5 |
