2004 Boxster engine

I need to replace the engine in my 2004 Boxster (intermediate bearing failure)

What other 2.7 engines (years) will fit without modification?

Does anyone have a line on a good used motor?

I will be upgrading the bearing in the new motor

Thanks

Bill

I'd stay away from anything newer than an 04 due to the problems changing out the last revision IMS bearing.

If I had a 2004 that I had to put a new engine in, I would definitely be considering at least a 3.6, and maybe a 3.8. Wayne's got a good article about the engine swap, and you'd find that the bigger engines will not be that much more expensive than the Boxster engine.

Something to consider.

Thanks! I was considering the upgrade but I think I just want to get it back together and go driving!

So I should stay with the 03 - 04 engine?
Thanks.

P.S. would a 3.2 S be a direct fit (no modification)?

you would need to reprogram you DME other than that I think you are good to go with that.

there is not telling when those suckers go. I have replace a dozen or so recently (IMS bearings) with varying mileage and some were totally fine and other were just starting to fail (binding bearing) with just minor seepage or weeping. others were leaking profusely. It's good insurance just to get it done and not worry every time you turn the key if it's the last time.
