Boxter leak

Hi. I just bought my first Boxter (04).

There seem to be a leak right in the middle of the car between the rear wheels. I have not had the chance to lift the car for closer inspection, but have seen 'n drop forming every time i come back from a drive.

It always hangs off a round type extension just to the right of the oil filter. There are huge amounts of old oil build up around it and above it on what looks like the engine...sorry i can't explain in more detail but i'm not familiar with the engine layout exc.

It feels and smells as if it could be water but it has the colour of oil, and i can't decide which one it might be. Also when i clean the drop, it doesn't form another drop until i have driven it. Could this be a leak of some kind or an overflow somewhere?

The car was serviced before i took delivery and it might also be oil or fluid that was spilled during the service.

Please advise on how i can find out and/or fix the problem.

Could be anything really. Best bet is to jack up the rear end, get under there and wipe down/clean the area where you think it is coming from. That way when it happens again you will, more clearly, be able to tell exactly where its coming from.

Also, you could place a tub/pan of some sort in the the area and check it after a while. That way to can better see and feel the consistency and smell of the fluid.

Good Luck

Pics help!
worst case is RMS, although that should be a leak in the center of the car around the bell housing.

May be an oil leak from spark plug tube(s). You can pull wheel off the offending side and there is an access panel in the wheel well to get a look at the plug area.

How much oil are you talking about? Did you have the car inspected for Rear Main Seal leakage before you purchased the vehicle? I would suggest you take your camera phone and get a picture. I have done this to keep an eye on things.
