I don't see where you mentioned the size of the hose that one needs to drain the gas tank: 1/4-inch I.D. polyethylene tubing. It's not clear which makes it hard to see when gas goes into the line, but it's fuel-resistant. Regular clear vinyl will work too, I guess, but it might work next time.

The clear vinyl hose works fine for short term emptying of the fuel tank like this - it's not going to eat through or dissolve the hose while your emptying the tank. I wouldn't use it long term, but for short term usage like this, the clear hose works well.
