I've got tiptronic, is the replacement totally different? Seems you're talking about cars with manual tranny in this article. The heading says it takes two hours, surely that's not possible with having to remove any transmission. In your experience are the auto trannies more "robust" than the manuals? Seems with all the problems people inquire about, it's never the tiptronic that is the problem.

With respect to the IMS bearing, there's no difference in longevity between the automatic and manual transmissions - they both seem to be equally poor. In hindsight, I probably should have done an article on dropping the automatic transmission for the Boxster book, as I have gotten this question quite a bit.
