I just swapped the head unit in my 986 and was unsure what to do about the internal amp. I ended up just bypassing the amp completely by splicing the inputs from the speakers to the outputs from the amp. This was a good idea for three of the speakers but the right rear speaker doesnt work now, is this because of the whole common ground situation? My head unit had the yellow connector.

Cool pic, you look way too happy though! If the other speakers are working and the right one isn't, I would check the wires to the speaker and make sure that they are not damaged. The speakers don't use a common ground, just two electrical pairs. I think that if they used a common ground, a lot of interference would get on the signal traveling through the line.
