Lower AOS Tube
Anyone have any tips on how to get at the driver's side end of the lower AOS tube? Appears it runs off from the (looking from the rear of the car) right side of the AOS, snakes around the passenger side intake manifold and various other components on the top of the engine, winds back through the driver's side intake manifold, and terminates at the engine block right under the manifold towards the front.
So far, I have the passenger side intake manifold off. Do I need to remove the driver's side intake manifold? How do you get your hands into that small area to disconnect the fitting from the engine block? I've tried from the top and from the panel in the passenger compartment. |

99 Boxster

I just did my AOS (1999 Boxster). That line was both flexible and had plenty of slack. I did the following:
1: Raised car and removed right wheel. 2: Removed upper tube that leads to intake. 3: Removed bolts that hold AOS in-place from underneath (through right wheel). 4: Removed AOS from "seated" position and rotated to access the lower line. 5: Disconnected lower line and removed AOS. Reverse order to reinstall. Wayne said 2 hours and it took me 4, but I did not have to pull the intake or anything else really. My issues were: 1: I knocked a wheel weight off when I pulled the tyre. Got Walmart to give me a new one for free. 2: I had a tough time putting the upper hose back on while the car was still lifted. I was not tall or strong enough (or both). Once I put the car back down it went right on. Hope that helps. |

Okay, I must clarify.
I just need to know if anyone has taken that bottom tube off, and how they did it. Trying to avoid taking the driver's side manifold off, but not looking good. The rigid tube just snakes around so many components that finding a good way to pull it out and get the new one in may require removing everything else around it. |

Bar, I think you would be better off if you pointed to the tube in this pic by number. My guess is you're talking about part number 4. I looked at doing it and said. Well you can guess what I said. Just didn't seem that important.

Remove the aos with the tube 4 connected to it. Slide the whole thing up and you will have better access to remove it. It is very tight where it sits and not worth messsing around with the other zillion tubes running close to it.

I must be horrible at explaining myself...
![]() Thanks for posting a pic Randy_k. Yep, #4 is what I removed. Did it yesterday. It was a beast! The passenger side intake manifold was already out, so the issue was could I remove this tube without removing the driver's side intake manifold. Ended up loosening the six bolts that hold it to the engine and just sliding it around in order to get at the the end that's connected to part #6. After that was disconnected, had to twist, turn, and rotate the tube to get it to sneak past all the other components to get it out. Putting the new one in was much easier, but only because of all I learned taking the old one out. |
