tension spring at Door handle problem
 

HI im having a problem with my left door handle, it doesn't retract to its original position anymore, that causes the window to open slightly and the light on the siding always turn on, as per browsing the net, some says, maybe the tension spring (Part # 99952201500 ) is missing or flew off, does anyone nows the exact location of a tension spring..:confused:

I had the same problem. The Porsche dealer wanted a million dollars to fix it so I fixed it myself using a rubber band for free within 30 minutes. Use a good thick rubber band.

Buy some torx screw drivers. Buy the set with different sizes because it takes at least 2 different sized torx screws to remove the door panel.

Also remove the silver air bag oval on your door panel. There is a screw behind it you need to open. There is also 2 or 3 screws around the door handle that you also need to remove.

Once you take the door panel off, you can use a rubber band to hold the door handle in the closed position. When you pull the handle to open the door and let go, the door handle uses the tension of the rubber band to go back in place.

Problem: The door handle has a bike brake line type of mechanism. This metal cord is supposed to pull the handle back. When I opened the door panel, this cord was very loose and it went into the metal of the door so I couldn't figure out how to adjust it if it was even adjustable.

I did this about 1 year ago and now my rubber band is starting to wear out. So I might do it again today by putting more than 1 stronger and thicker rubber bands so that it lasts much longer.

I had the same problem last winter on my 2000S drivers door handle. After removing the inner door panel, I found the forward 'U' part of my spring had broke in two. Since the spring is very strong, I took my needlenose plyers and bend a new 'U' and reattached.

6 months so far without any issues...

Thanks projectm, il try to dismantle the door trim and look for the " U " part that hold the spring as ( Dghii did ) and try to restore it, or plan B is your rubberband project...

Okay, I just did it again yesterday.

You need T25 and T30 Torx Screw Drivers and you need 1 Phillips screw driver.

The hidden screws are behind the silver oval air bag logo, behind the inside door handle(hold it open to see), in the door storage space(Phillips screw driver, last screw to be removed), and the the hidden torx screw at the base of the support handle where the handle meets the storage space. There is a little plastic U shaped flap you need to pull off.

When you get the screw off from behind the door handle, pull off the plastic piece surrounding the door handle and you will find another screw to open at the top of the large support handle connecting to the storage bin. To make this job easier, this should be the second screw removed.

When you get the 2 screws off from the support handle, remove the support handle by sliding it forward and pulling it up.

Once you get the 5 screws out, unsnap the door panel by pulling hard around the edges. Once you unsnap it, pull the door panel carefully away and upwards from the mirror. There will be 2 electrical cords plugged in (One for door light and one for lowering window 1/4 inch when door handle is pulled). They can easily be unplugged accidentally when pulling off the door panel so be careful.

It is a 10-15 minute job. Be sure the two electrical cords are plugged back in before you put it back on.

When my door handle first broke, a tiny U shaped piece fell out. When I opened the door panel, I couldn't find find out where that U shaped piece came from. So I ended up using rubber bands. But if my newer stronger thicker rubber bands ever fail, I will try what you did.
