New ECU for 1999 Boxster

I bought a 1999 Boxster 5 speed without an immobilizer under the drivers seat at auction over the weekend. It got wet at some point and the previous owner took the seats out and took it out. Apparently it has sat for several years. I only have one key and it appears to be a valet key with a small grey head.

What would I need to do to get a replacement immobilizer? Would I need to get new keys since they are tied to it? What am I looking at as far as pulling an one out of a wrecked car?

I'd like to try to get it running again. It looks like the car was pretty well taken care of prior to sitting.

The RFID keys, the immobilizer, and the DME all have to match. If you do not have the RFID keys, you will need to buy them from Porsche and have them cut them for your car, and you will need a new immobilizer as well (read big $); after which you will need access to either a PST II or PIWIS factory computer to program everything to talk to each other. This will not be a cheap fix, so be prepared, unless you get everything above from a single wrecked car, which will also not be easy as you rarely find them togeather. Good luck.

So if I finds wrecked car, I'll need one RFID pill (or key with one), immobilizer for under the drivers seat, and the trunk mounted DME?

With the one RFID pill mounted near the ignition switch, and a corresponding matching immobilizer and DME it should try to start, right?

I'm cheap and patient... I'll wait for a matching set to come along.

ScottT80,

From reading your notes it sounds like you want to put as little money into the car as possible.

However, putting a used DME set has it's drawbacks. We made about video about this: https://youtu.be/QCOunBZL_Yk

VIIN # will be different in DME and therefore that can open a can of worms.

It's much better to solve the issue with the OEM set that you currently have.
