Oops! Added 1 Qt. too many!

Well, I went and did a silly thing. Well, I'll tell you what I did... while changing my oil I added 10 qts of oil... not 9, but 10... yes, one too many. Don't ask, it doesn't matter now anyway, OK? I'm humiliated enough... and my nine year old son was watching.

It's showing about an 1/8 of an inch over full on the dipstick (Yup, the 2001s still had a dipstick).

Do you guys think I need to remove a qt? If it was on my Suburban I wouldn't much care, but in a Porsche this sort of bothers me.

I'd drive the car for about 10 miles and see if it goes down. If it doesn't, then I might think about taking a little bit out.

Thanks, Wayne. Sorry to waste your time with such a stupid inquiry!

Already drove it a bit... so, I just jacked her up and drained out a qt. What a PITA. Remind me next time not to talk to my ex-wife on the phone while filling my oil!

I did not realize they did away with the oil dipstick until I read this. So you just have to rely on the oil level on the dash then? What year did they do it?

I don't know when they stopped, but I do know that my dash system always matches my dipstick exactly, so the dash system is apparently an accurate one. That said, in some areas I prefer to stay "analog". If I had to choose, I'd take the dipstick.

Yes I thought I overfilled my 2001 Boxster base a year ago just after I bought it. The dipstick showed a different level from the guage. So I took it to my indy garage and assured me that it was not overfilled.
However if you have any doubt then u drained some oil off which I think is the right thing to do.:)

The dipstick disappeared with the 2005 987...
