Variocam actuators & Durametric
Guys,
When the variocam solenoid is activated with the car running at idle (with Durametric), the RPM should surge up momentarily& then return to idle. What do you reckon is wrong if, on one bank, the RPM surges but doesn't increase as much as the other (approx. 600RPM vs 1200RPM on good side)?? I am guessing that the variocam system is trying to work but something is stopping the full actuation??!? Thanks in advance |

I'm not sure, I would check the end result, which would be the advance in cam bank timing?

Unfortunately I can't check the #2 side as its ROW (unless, would it be hard to swap the sensor to the other side?).
It's weird, something definitely happens when I activate it with Durametric, the engine stumbles like the # 1 side, but the #1 side then revs up briefly (approx 1200RPM) then recovers to normal. I reckon the #2 is trying to advance but something is stopping it?? Thanks Wayne |

Rather than starting a new thread.....
When the car is not warmed up, I use Durametric to activate the variocam & nothing happens to the revs (ie. no advance). Same on both sides. But once the engine is warmed up, both sides give the RPM surge with activation of variocam via Durametric. Is this normal?? Also, if timing has been checked correct, but camshaft deviation is showing outside limits (rock steady @ 6.75 degs), could it be the chain tensioners being a bit sloppy? Thanks in advance, Matt |
