Cruise Control Stopped Working after repairing the horn plate
I have a 2000 Boxster with a horn that would go off by itself under hard braking or hitting bumps. I took off the steering wheel and repaired the weakened rubber mounts and the horn works fine.
But now, my cruise control no longer works. The dash light never comes on when I press the button on the end of the stalk. In fact, the dash light doesn't even come on momentarily when I turn on the ignition. Continuity checks are OK on the stalk, brake and clutch switches. Could the cruise control option become disabled in the computer when I disconnected the battery for the horn repair? |

To the last question, no. No matter how many times you disconnect the battery, the ECU won't "forget" your cruise control is enabled.
I'm not a Boxster expert, by far. But I do know electronics. More than likely, something isn't connected right. Either loose connection, or broken continuity. I know it sucks, but take it back apart and make sure the connections are all snug. And, not knocking your troubleshooting, but if you did check continuity, you may not have been checking far enough downstream, so the portion you checked may appear good, but the open is further down the line. |

I replaced the cruise control indicator lamp in the instrument panel, and now the cruise control works again!
This is not the first time an indicator lamp was the cause of a circuit failure. |

Glad to hear you fixed it! But, seems strange that an open at the indicator lamp would keep the cruise from working. Must be a safety device, to have to see the indicator lamp, in order for the cruise control to work.
