02 boxster aftermarket headers installation..O2 sensor problem
 

I just got a 02 boxster...... The previous owner gave me a pair of aftermarket headers....he said if i want to install them i will have to get a pair of O2 sensor otherwise ill get engine check light...well that makes sense to me.....today I look into my exhaust system..i find the header and the cat converter is actually one unit...and there are 2 sensors on the header+cat converter unit...r they all O2 sensors?? But there is only one socket hole on the after market header....How can I install that thing????? Anyone tried before???????

Yes, these cars have 4, count 'em 4 oxygen sensors and 4 catalytic converters just so they won't be lonely. DON'T put them in. I have a set of headers without the cats that have 4 bungs for the oxygen sensors. The first is relocated to one of the tubes coming off the head and the other is after the three tubes come together. The theory is that it will fool the sensors and not throw a code. Well mine threw a code just the same on my '02 Boxster S. I finally went back to the stock header/cat setup out of frustration. I don't see how yours would work at all as the computer needs input from both a pre and post oxygen sensor to be happy. I do have those headers for sale here on the site. Most likely good for a track car.....I guess.

To further discourage you, it is fairly common to see postings about people who broke the bolts attaching the headers to the block. And the hellacious time they had dealing with the broken-off bolts. Unless you have lots of experience, tools and patience.....

Yep, I broke a bolt too. Nothing I did worked to remove it except drilling it out and putting in a Helicoil. Not too bad really except having to do it all on my back. After breaking that one off I found using my impact gun set on low got all the rest of the bolts out without an issue.

I would have never even tried to put the cat delete headers in were it not for the fact that my drivers side cat was making a terrible rattle and it was getting embarrassing!!! I ended up fixing it by giving the cat a bit of a pinch in my vise at both ends. And to answer your other question I got all of my gaskets here on Pelican.

Yes, if you install aftermarket headers without CATs, then you will get the codes eventually. The four O2 sensors work together to detect the CATs, and if they don't find them working properly (missing), then they will trigger a code.
