I was 65 last year before I bought my first Boxster which I have had for a year now. I also had a TR3, MGB and Miata. I can truly say the Boxster has been the best sports cars I have ever had, most power, best handling. Yes the IMS is always a factor until 2009 when they built it without one. Yes the above poster suggested 2003-2004 and that has the glass rear window. I have the IMS Guardian installed to give warning of impending IMS failure. I have the 2001 Boxster base with low mileage of 40K miles. You likely will not regret this decision but you must get a good one. Get a PPI done, ask for service records, make sure all warning lites illuminate before you start the engine. Manual or auto transmission? Check for options such as heated seats, make sure air cond. works. What options are important for you? And don't buy the first one you see. Play the field. Once bitten by the Boxster bug, you will be smitten! Enjoy the ride:):):)

2005 mid-year or newer, or an earlier Boxster with enough money in reserve to do the IMS aftermarket replacement.

David you have taught your kids well. The Porsche Boxster is the funnest device ever created by man. Find the best Boxster mechanic in town thru your local PCA club chapter & thru him verify the Boxster of your choice has been maintained better than Porsche recommends, the year is somewhat irrelevant for your purposes & you have sufficient budget to achieve your goal. Focus on the best car & not the "best deal" I'm thinking a automatic "S". Oh & don't buy large bunches of green bananas. :D

Last year I bought a 2003 S with about 20k on the clock for about 20k dollars. I.m a big guy so 2005 and later were out (I needed a car with a removable center console). Like the glass window, LOVE the Boxster. Get one, you will love it.

But, I have to add that Boxters and Porsches in general cost a LOT to own. I have a 2000 non S that cost 40K used at 2 years old, has 58K on the speedo now, and the latest round of repairs cost $4200 (preemptive water pump, A/C and broken motor mount).

On the best day ever in Boxster sales value, that's a 3rd of the car's price. Closer to 1/2 in reality.
