Upgrading ECU program - too many changes?
 

I have a 2000 Boxster S, which suffered a significant engine failure. Jake Raby at Flat 6 Enterprises built me a new one with displacement taken out to 3.6l, new IMS etc. I have a secondary cat bypass pipe, cold air intake, IPD 74mm inlet plenum and throttle body, and I plan on installing a Fabspeed full header/sport cat exhaust this fall.

This raises two questions;
Will I benefit from installing an adjustable fuel ppressure regulator, or are my current injectors and stock pressure regulator capable of passing all of the fuel engine might need?
I have a softronics re-flash installed after the cat bypass and cold air intake were installed. Will I benefit from a new reprogramming at this point with the larger displacement, IPD intake equipment, and Fabspeed exhaust added into the mix?

Jake built and installed the engine, and did a great job. I didn't ask him to do any tuning, so never asked him about it. I was originally planning on getting an upgrade tune from Softronics, but have not been able to get a clear answer from them on either question.

I thought to suggest Jake too but decided that might be misinterpreted. I know from talking to him Jake has done a lot of dyno time on the possible combinations and what works in the real world and what only works on the dyno. You wouldn't believe the dyno hours on his personal test cars. And then once he thinks it is going to work, it is out into real roads and traffic and then maybe to the track and only when it works all places is he satisfied...until the next mod possibility strikes him and he starts all over again. Since you already have a relationship, just ask.

Lyle, did you mean that the 3.2l engine was modified to 3.6l or was it a 3.6l from a 911?

If its the 3.2 Im astounded you could take it out that much bigger.

After modifying your car you should probably get the retune because the old curves may actually be inhibiting your performance if the engine can't get the full mixture that it is capable of.

A reflash should be free or at least greatly reduced price right?

It looks like I have several suggestions to contact jake on these questions, so I will follow through on that suggestion. I was reluctant to bother a busy man who had already done exactly what I had requested of him.

It's done on the original 3.2! Flat 6 enterprises will prepare an engine, with all of the known Porsche design weaknesses engineered out, in a number of displacements all the way up to 4.0l, using the owner's standard 3.2 or 3.4. Actually I believe they can do the same with a non S (2.7) engine too. Process uses L&N engineering NicKies and their IMS as well.

What do you think about fuel pressure regulator, should I look at that or do my stock injectors have enough margin to handle the increased air/gas flow and displacement?

porsche used the same injectors in the boxsters and 911s to 2005, which would include the 3.6 L motor. so, if they flow enough for an oem 3.6, they should flow enough for your car.
