Differential oil for 201 Boxster S

I know asking this question is like asking what gas you prefer or beer you like, but what are some recommended DIY oil alternatives for using the dealer to do a transaxle drain and refill on a 2001 Boxster S? I searched the forum and did not get any hits for gearbox or transaxle oil.
Thanks for your help!

well, there are not many options.
some will say that the only trans oil that really works is the OEM.
some will argue with that, and will tell you that the swapco oil is just fine.
in my car, i used the OEM, which is a little bit expansive (around 100$ for the needed 3 liters), but again, it needed to be done every 60K (if not mistaken) so i can live with that.
the oil change was done more then a year ago at 75K.
big difference after the change. didn't feel it right away, but as more as i drive the car, the transmission seems to work better.
a year later i can tell you that my trans is feeling much smother then before the change. the second gear "grinding" noise that use to show now and then, is completely gone in the last year.

Pelican Technical Article: Boxster Differential / Manual Boxster Transmission Fluid Change - 986 / 987

You might review the tech article on the subject. Swepco 201 is a snythetic fluid that is recommended by Pelican. I just had mine done at a race shop and they used Redline MTL. You are right though, you will get a lot of different answers just like you do with motor oils.

Just my 2 cents.

Replaced the trans axle fluid in my 2000 S about a year ago with Redline 75-90 NS. Shifting at start up is tough and in cold weather damn near impossible until the transmission warms up. I am going back to the expensive (and have already purchased) OEM fluid when I get the chance. I am learning that Porsche is a persnickety car built a certain way with certain things in mind. Monkeying around trying to find cheaper (and possibly your ego) may serve your pocket book in the short run but may be a mistake in the long.

Swepco is not synthetic.
