Rotating display lights on dash running back and forth between high and low gears?
 

My 2004 986 is showing rotating display lights on dash running back and forth between high and low gears (e.g. When in "Park", the display will indicate that It is in "4th" and "Park", etc.). This is an automatic transmission. Does anyone have a clue what this indicates please?

I have a 2000 boxster with tiptronic and I had a similar problem with the light toggle between D and 4th gear. Turns out that it was the spark plug boot was bad. When I changed it the problem went away. The same problem came back and when I removed the # 2 cyl boot it too was bad I should have replaced all boots at the same time. Just ordered the boots from Pelican and will replace on thur.Pretty certain that this will fix it again and will let you know. Not sure why it does that though, voltage leaking to ground?

Well today I changed the boots and the problem went away no more light toggle. Car runs fine except for that second to third gear hard shift when cold.
