trying to diagnose a oil burning issue

I thought was the AOS, so I replaced it.

Possible bad new AOS?

The car smokes on start up and clears after running about 5 mins.

under hard accel as soon as it hit 5800 RPM it will belch out a thick cloud of smoke that will cause people behind me to pull over.

Under a couple of the test the computer will throw a code for bank one O2 making me think it is a issue with oil scavenging out of one of the heads.

Help!

I think later today I will bypass the AOS to see if it is the issue.

Before by-passing the AoS, check and make sure you oil is not overfilled, and consider doing a leak down test on the engine.

What year & mileage are we working with ?

Assuming & hoping AOS was the problem, you still have plenty of oil in the intake that gets sucked into the combustion chamber randomly. Check passenger side sparkplugs for fouling starting with #2 in the middle.

Maybe I can find some type of intake cleaner.

Seafoam?

Could too high oil viscosity cause the smoke at hard-driving times?

Well removed the center joint on the intake to clean and inspect. Yep ton of oil...

Let me see if I can download some pics today.

Definitely should clean intake as part of replacing the AOS valve to save a headache

Now just imagene what the sparkplugs look like.

So now we see how Porsche dealers charge $800- $900 to repair failed AOS.

114k miles on 1997

Sorry this one was for someone, I do some side work from time to time. If all goes well I'll do a rear main on this car as well.

This is after I cleaned it, it is actually better if you can believe that!

I feel like 007 in his car after hitting the smoke screen button.

turn volume down, a lot of wind noise

a little bit of oil can create a lot of smoke, could it be possible that there is some residual oil in there that is getting sucked in?

That is a lot of smoke. It's possible, but not likely that the new AOS was bad from the factory. More likely may be that the PVC valves in the crankcase are broken / stuck, which would cause a tremendous amount of vacuum and would cause the new (and old) AOS to fail. How is the crankcase vacuum test (remove oil cap with car running)?
